Master-detail interfaces work best when you have a large list of some type of data, and the individual items in the list have details associated with them — details that the user needs to view or modify. The Twitter mobile app is a perfect example of a master-detail UI in action. The main screen is a giant “master” list of tweets that the user can tap on. When the user does tap, they’re taken to an additional “details” screen with additional information on the tweet.
